Trichomoniasis? (1 Viewer)

Is this Goldfinch suffering from trichomoniasis or something else? I was out in the garden the other day when it landed on the lawn only about six feet from me and began feeding on spilt niger. I went to get my camera, came back and took a few snaps. The bird showed no fear at all, although it must have been aware of me. It then flew up to the feeders even though I was only about three feet away. As you can see, it was was fluffed up and had a somewhat damp face. It was generally quite lethargic and had some initial difficulty getting a grip on the niger feeder when other birds usually land on it very confidently. It was having problems swallowing the food it was taking, throwing its head back to try and force it down. It was so unconcerned by my presence that I feel sure I could have picked it off the perch. It gave the impression of being on its last legs and I have not seen it again.

I have taken my feeders down. This seems to be an isolated occurrence as I have not seen any other sick birds. In view of this, would it be safe to rehang the feeders once I have disinfected them?

There is a survey of bird and wildlife health in the garden where you can get lots of info and send in details of what's happening. They're always interested in new cases. Link here http://www.gardenwildlifehealth.org/
