On Saturday there was a Kingfisher on the canal at Brandwood End, not far from Lifford. Reported on BTO.
That's a few times, seen along the canal recently.
That could be 3 or 4 in a few miles area.

A walk along my favourite Bourn Brook walkway lol.
Looking high and low for the Kingfisher lol.
It was not by the blue bridge or the roundabout.
I had a feeling it would be opposite the old Reservoir.
And there it was lol, yep by the old res.
Great!

Nice one Keith!
I was struggling to find the Bourn Brook walkway Kingfisher when similar to yours it flew out, almost water level.
Earlier had a surprise when a Buzzard flew out of the Bourn Brook, it went around me & off down the brook.
Another surprise 2 Kingfisher either side of the Dogpool Lane bridge at the River Rea.
Little Egrets flying high & fast towards Woodgate Valley.
Another 2 on the River Rea.
My back garden is getting good with 2 Nuthatches on my feeders. A male Blackcap & Male & Female Chaffinch as well.
I also found Greenfinch & Chaffinch along the Bourn Brook.

Early this morning the first Kingfisher on the Bourn Brook by the roundabout & Ariel aqueduct. It didn't fly up the brook or under the tunnel, it went up & over the tunnel but under the aquaduct. I guess it then continued down the Bourn Brook.
The second Bourn Brook Kingfisher was on the inlet to the brook where the Welches brook joins from the golf course.
Then in the afternoon I found the River Rea Kingfisher at a regular spot by Ten Acres.

After the overnight rain Saturday I could not find the Kingfisher on the Bourn Brook yesterday. The water remained brown. I thought the River Rea would be worse but fond the Kingfisher on a slow & shallow stretch down from the Dogpool Lane bridge. Funny enough it was in exactly the same spot as last Sunday at approx. the same time. Great!

Good walk along the Bourn Brook walkway today.
It was great to see a Kestrel. It flew off towards Weoley.
I couldn't find the Kingfisher until out the corner of my eye I saw it dive in the distance by the big pipes. Great!

Yesterday the Bourn Brook Kingfisher was by the university. Not seen one on that stretch for ages.
Couldn't find it today so headed to the River Rea.
Found a Little Egret at the far end of Ten Acres and what flew out a Kingfisher. Female as well.
Great!

So Saturday the Kingfisher was down by the Uni.
Today the Kingfisher was back by the blue bridge.
I've never noticed so many Chaffinch. Even had a couple in my back garden.
I must see the Bourn Brook Buzzard every few weeks, Sunday it was sat over the brook in a tree.
It seems to have a favourite spot, down from the blue bridge.
Green Woodpeckers started calling a few weeks back.
Now Dunnock calling everywhere.

either way please encourage him, Kingfishers are in decline and are likely to continue in this trend. We could soon be seeing a total collapse in their numbers in the UK

I dont know if they are still there but I used to watch them in the ashwood dale

Green woodpeckers are everywhere now but may I ask you. Have you seen any lesser spotted in recent years down there. I know they have seen a massive decline with the growth of greens and greater spotted, this seems to be due to warming. I am assuming you dont have many left but would be very pleased to hear otherwise

During the week I saw reports of Kingfisher checking out nest site at Ryemeads & Slimbridge so I hoped I would see the same back at the Bourn Brook.
First there was a Little Egret on the new flood plain then down the brook a Kingfisher went past calling.
Then one stopped by opposite me. Then they were flying up and down calling. Then further along they were together & then flying & calling again.
Then a Sparrowhawk went past.
The Starlings started gathering, Dunnocks calling along the brook & a Kingfisher still there.
Great!

What a great morning.
First I checked out the Bourn Brook walkway and saw the shiny Kingfisher fly the complete length.
Then when I got to the River Rea and straight away I heard calling Kingfisher and there were a pair and I got a photo.
https://www.flickr.com/photos/888163...etaken-public/
Then straight away the Kingfisher on the River Cole at Trittiford.
Great!

Yesterday I thought I best check out Spaghetti Junction and the River Tame.
There was a Female Goosander.
Then I thought I heard a Kingfisher but I didn't see it.
Then I got to where the River Rea meets the River Tame and of course a Kingfisher flew out.
The first weekend for some time I checked out all the Kingfisher hot spots.
Good to find 7 in total. Great!
