House finches abandoned then returned to eggs in nest (1 Viewer)

Hello! We have house finches that build a nest every year on our patio. This year after building a nest and laying 4 eggs they abandon the nest. Today, after what I estimate to be 10+ days, they returned. Because it’s been unusually cold here with snow in April we’ve not been sitting on the porch however we do let our dog out often from the porch door. This is no different than year’s past however. Any theories on why they’d abandon the nest and then return?

Quite possibly scared away by movement around the nest or a bird of prey. I don't see the eggs hatching after all this time in the cold. Maybe they'll try again.
