If the buffer is anything like the SX40 Mike, then RAW is next to useless IMO for action shots where you are shooting in burst. I tried RAW on the SX40 but is takes several seconds to clear the buffer after each shot!- I settled on the super fine jpeg hack in the end. Thanks Roy.
With a maximum f 6.5 at 1200mm I wonder how often the long end can really be used.
RAW without hacking welcome.

The 7D + a decent lens like the 400/5.6 - 100-400 or 300/4 is obviously going to be better, it cost 5x more so that should tell you something. I have both the 7D and SX40 and while the SX40 is a great little lightweight walkaround there is no contest really - the old adage 'you get what you pay for' comes to mind.Choices - Do I go for this camera or the Canon 7D with a good lens? I was really thinking about the 7D before I saw this.
Superb shots. I'm watching the SX50 with some interest as I use the SX30 for my bird shots and have been very happy with it. But am now looking to move up a little and not sure between SX40 or SX50. Any ideas anyone between the two for birding?
