I have just seen a bird I've never seen before. I think it may be redwing, especially with the light marking over the top of the eye. Also there is a large rowen tree next door and we occasionally get waxwings on this. Exciting stuff, I thought you guys look like to know http://www.rspb.org.uk/wildlife/birdguide/name/r/redwing/index.aspx

Welcome to Birdforum, the first line of the link states; The redwing is most commonly encountered as a winter bird.

It's a common bird in winter, well done on your first sighting.

Leigh, Manchester.... wasn't there a thrush with a supercilium there a year or two ago? Sure this isn't a post-Dusky Thrush wind-up?

There was a Dusky photgraphed in Mcr - but suburban Mcr is awash with Redwings at the moment so I think the original ID will stand!
