Would like to know, are these white markings on this male House Sparrow unusual or common. Photo's taken this morning.

Seen various partially-affected leucistic birds like this. Not that I am an expert, but I dont think there is anything more unusual or sinister than this explanation - although I think it is quite unusual for House Sparrows.

Queue the experts.......

From time to time I have seen house sparrows with white markings on them... sometimes more white in t he tail, sometimes white on the backs.... I just took it as a color aberrition...
Cheers across the ocean!

Hi Merlin.

Could not have come from Eastville, the colours are not right. Had a good chuckle with your reply.

Thanks all for your replies, seems I do have an unusually marked Sparrow visiting my garden. I'm going to get a good photo hopefully for my bird photo collection.

Hello Rod,,,,
i also have some varied house sparrow marked birds, Out of an average daily visit of 70+ house sparrows, there is one female that i call my sparrowxbunting, she has been here for about three years now ( pic 1861 )
Also some of the males have very white collars ( pic 1863 )

Hello jules.

Good to know you have so many House Sparrows visiting your garden, I too have between 50-60 visitors most times, the numbers have dropped a little at the moment but that always seems to happen this time year. The female on your feeder has the same sort of markings as my male, be good to get them together & see what they produce, ha ha.
