We have just returned from South Florida where we observed a pair of Ospreys on a beach near Naples. One bird, presumably the female, was on the nest for almost all of the 2 hours that we were there. The other was continually hunting, with his mate constantly calling. When he eventually brought a fish back, they managed to drop it out of the nest. We couldn't see if there was a chick present.
The male then flew off again and we saw him catch a fish. However, he didn't return to the nest nor to the nearby perching post which he had been using.
My question is whether he might have been providing for a second nest as well?
Any thoughts?
