Where did you see it?

Its a lot easier to identify it if you know to exact location, you can rule out many species that way too.

maybe Hardhead ?

not firm but think they show white-ish underwings

Hello RMD.

Hardhead is the only Aythya Duck that occurs in Oz.If you memorize the wing pattern and the general shape you will have no problems with identifying this species again while your in Oz.
