This bird has been hanging around in my garden for a few days and looks like a Reed Bunting (to me), except it has a brown crown...

Reed Buntings are one of many species which develop full breeding plumage by the ends of the feathers wearing away, so the fresh crown feather is brown at the tip, and then black lower down.
