Hi all,
I am a keen birder soon moving to Shenzhen looking for information and other birders living in or visiting the area.

Welcome to the forum! I am up in the North-East of China but I am sure you will soon hear from some people more familiar with your area. It is a slow time right now being between migrations and with many people taking summer holiday, often back in their home country. The forum community here in China is very helpful and welcoming so keep us posted!

I am posting from Liaoning as Panjin Birding by the Old Fat Man http://www.birdforum.net/showthread.php?t=301937
Mike, in Hong Kong is an avid birder who is nearby and quite active on the forum as Exploring Lantau http://www.birdforum.net/showthread.php?t=249410
A very good thread for China in general is China observations http://www.birdforum.net/showthread.php?t=155285 we haven’t heard from Gretchen for a long time now and Dong Bei has moved back to Canada, but it is a good thread for China in general and I hope it stays active. “Dong Bei and I thought it would be good to have a general thread - where anyone who had occasional (or more than occasional) China observations could add them. There is no limit on theme or geography, just birds in China.”

Hi TSB

I haven't done a lot of birding in Shenzhen, except for a visit to Futian mangrove/weland reserve a couple of times in the last 20 years. Havign said that there are increasing numbers of local birders in Shenzhen and I'm sure you'll meet some if you go to Futian.

There is plenty to see in Hong Kong which is a short jump across the border, with Mai Po and Long Valley being the best-known wetland sites and close to Lok Ma Chau and Sheung Shui statiosn respectively.

Most rewarding migth be to find a site of your own to poineer. The Daya Bay peninsula looks promisingfrom the Hong Kong side of the basy, but is very little covered.

You can find lots of info on birding in Hong Kong on the HKBWS website, if you have not done so already.

Cheers
Mike
