People get run over on the roads. Cars go on. People get predated occasionally. Animals should go on.

Well, the drivers who kill pedestrians do get removed from the roads.
Even if you value the life of a leopard above the lives of its potential human victims, you have to consider that allowing the protected animals prey on humans (esp. children...) unchallenged is one sure way to turn all the local population against your conservation efforts. Farmers get angry about wolves preying (sometimes) on sheep. Imagine the anger if the wolves started eating their children. No wolf would be safe from poachers.
