Just back from a week in Watamu and was ably guided by Jonathan Baya and his son Stephen. We visited Arubuko-Sokoke forest twice, highlights included Clarke's Weaver, a "Mary and Joseph" pair of Sokoke Scops Owl, Malinda Pipit and Southern Banded Snake Eagle. We also saw several feeding groups largely made up of Chestnut-Fronted And Retz's Helmet-Shrikes.

At Mida Creek we saw numerous shorebirds including Crab-plover and White-fronted plover. We ventured slightly further afield to Sabaki rivermouth for a half day trip where the undoubted highlight were the Greater Flamingos on the shoreline. The best roadside birds were Carmine Bee-eaters which are passing through this time of year.

We stayed at Turtle Bay beach resort which as highlighted on this forum previously is a great base, they have resident Golden Palm Weavers and African Golden Weavers. Most people are here for the sunbathing and other activities including the diving and snorkelling, I preferred to watch Ospreys fishing whilst enjoying a beer beachside.

I would certainly have struggled without Jonathan's guiding skills, his rates are reasonable and he can easily be googled.
