Hello everyone! I want to take my girlfriend who is just getting into birding on a birding/camping trip in December, but I know absolutely nothing about birding. I don’t mind driving far out from Los Angeles, and I would love if our dog could join too! If anyone could recommend any good hotspots in the area it would be greatly appreciated!

Thank you in advance,
Josh

The best bird photos I've ever gotten were at Bolsa Chica circa 2005-2007. I'm not sure of the condition of that wetland today. As to camping, the beach area on the opposite (ocean) side of PCH might accomodate that.

If you're in L.A., you can head East on the 10, up the 62, and stop at the Big Morongo Canyon Preserve before going on to camp at Joshua Tree Natl Park.

They do a guided bird walk on Wednesday mornings. Mostly an older, retired crowd who are usually happy to help with bird ID's.
