This is a frame grab from a video when I was a kid. I never could figure out what kind of snake it was. I always tended towards a Fox Snake. Location was Middle Tennessee. Any ideas? -Thanx

Ya know

Finally someone posted a reply. Im 99% sure it wasnt a Corn Snake, But after reading around and whatnot, I think its like you said, an immature Black Rat snake. Check out the pic @ this linhttp://frogsandsnakes.homestead.com/rat.htmlk

Hi JDV

Patterns look about right for a juvenile black ratsnake, but one thing I did notice is the snake in your picture has a strong black stripe by it's eye which is not present on the picture on the site that you posted a link too - possibly these snakes where just at different points of development? Also the eye in your picture seems a bit larger in relation to the head than the site, maybe an angle. I am no snake expert and the patterns look right, so despite my concerns above I would say you are right.

gray rat snake. its another color phase of the black rat, but grays do range into tennessee so that might be what it is
