Both found on grassland. The first was clustered, had a white spore print and the spores were an irregular tear-drop shape with apiculus measuring ~ 8.5 x 5.5 um. The second was on its own with a brown spore print, large spores ~ 12.5 x 8.5 um with germ pore. Any help appreciated.

Thanks

The first is Marasmius oreades - The free gills are a good hint, plus they should have a distinctive smell, like almonds.

The second is Agrocybe dura. The veil is distinctive and sometimes leaves a ring on the stem. The large spores rule out most lookalike Psathyrella (they should have also been a bit thick-walled?).

Cheers,
Nick

Cheers Nick

I went back again yesterday and the brown ones did have a strangely distinctive smell. The white one did have the dark spores and a brittle stem so spent an hour trying to shoehorn it into being a Psathyrella - must broaden my horizons. And yes the spores were thick-walled.

Thanks again.
