Any So. Sacramento & Foothills Birders? (1 Viewer)

A budding birder
Hi! I'm back to Birdforum after a long absence and wonder if there are any folks from my neck of the woods out wandering among them for bird sightings. I live at Lake Amador near Ione, CA about 45 miles east of Elk Grove and South Sacramento. I recently bought a new Canon SX30 IS camera and have a renewed interest in bird spotting and photography.

I watched this egret the other day and saw it behave rather oddly by twisting it's neck to I'd guess get a better look at something. I was shooting telephoto so was quite a distance from it and could not see what it was up to. Still not sure, but now that I looked close at the image I wonder if it was a fish or the green fishing bobber near the bottom of the pic. Dang pure white birds! I've got to learn to cut my exposure back so I get some feather detail. I PPed this in Photoshop but the highlights were too far gone to get them back.
