Can anyone tell what bird this is? The photo isn't great.
Of note, my sister photographed a 4ft snake in the garden, would a bird that size eat a snake?

Taken at Wester Urray, Black Isle, Scotland.

The snake looks like a slow worm, a legless lizard.....but wonderful to see anywhere. Perhaps 4 feet long may be a tad long for this species,. The bird in the photo is most likely a sparrowhawk; their main prey is birds and hence why they frequently visit gardens.

I agree with PYRTLE - 4 feet long would be more than twice the length of most adult slow worms - which usually reach about 50cm (or 20” in old money.) I think the stripe on the back and dark flanks make this one a female.

Thanks Pyrtle. 4ft was an estimate based on the size of the clover leaves, probably extended somewhat by fear....
