Question DVD on older computers?

Hello all,

I have a relative who has put a DVD into an old Compaq Pressario. It reads CD's and DVD ROM's but I can't get it to play DVD films. All the software I have available to me requires far more in the way of system requirements than the computer has to offer. It has a pentium processor at 120mhz and 32 meg of RAM. Is it possible that a machine of this spec can play movies and if so does anybody know how?

He could comfortably afford a new machine but "you don't get rich by spending it" and it fulfills his requirements in all other respects.

Cheers

Derek

Hi Derek,

With a low spec. machine like that one, I don't think there is any way you could play a DVD film. A PC with double the speed CPU would be very hard-pressed, even with a hardware decoder card added. I think the min. spec. for a PC to be able to play DVD is around 500Mhz and 64Mb - even that is borderline and requires additional software to enable playback.

Andy.

Thanks Andy,

I did suspect as much. Iwon't bother wasting any more time on it.
