Hello, we are a couple from Bulgaria, we like birdwatching very much. We will travel this autumn in Russia and we are looking for a field guide. We bought the book Birds in Russia, but it is not a guidebook:

https://www.amazon.com/Collins-Guid...coding=UTF8&psc=1&refRID=6A3F09E6JX7MMCCCQJD1

We want to find a field guide in English, but as we are Bulgarian, we can manage with one in Russian language. We will make the Trans-Siberian railway, from Vladivostok to Moscow, so we will travel in the Far East either. We need a field guide for both parts of Russia
– European and Asian and not only the Western Palearctic.

Can you please recommend us something?

Thank you very much in advance.

The classic field guide,in English, that covers the whole of Russia from St.Petersberg to Vladivostock is Flint et al.-Birds of Russia and Adjacent Territories published by Princeton in 1984/1989.Its quite a good field guide with reasonable illustrations, and it would just about fit a large pocket. You can find copies on the interenet. There are a variety of more recent and better field guides, but they either deal with the west or the east of Russia, but not the whole country.
Tom Lawson.

Svensson for the West for sure, but which ones for the east? Ayé et al, Birds of Central Asia and Brazil, Birds of East Asia perhaps?
