Thanks all. So currently Iberian Green Woodpecker is still a subspecies, but there is talk of it being split?

Several organisations and 'authorities' have already 'split' Iberian Green Woodpecker, but the broad concensus seems to currently regard it as a sub-species. However well worth seeing both in its own right and as an 'insurance' against 'armchair dipping' (a rarely mentioned adjunct to armchair ticks!). So regarding ticking it at the moment, it depends whose armchair you're sitting in,

And that across its distribution, Eurasian Jay plumage varies greatly, something not always shown in field guides.
