Will be interested to see how this works, animal detect sounds interesting.

It sounds good and i think the G9 is a great camera apart from its AFC, i said when i sold mine that Panasonic had over complicated the focus settings to try to bring DFD up to contrast detect standards.
It will be interesting to see but i have my doubts about what it will add.
I got fairly competent with mine but the keeper rate was just too low.

Some G9 and 100-400 samples, if the keeper percentage had been better i would still have mine, i think the files are far better than Olympus.

No problem as such, I find the focussing just fine - but animal detect may make initial acquisition and tracking of the subject easier.

Static subjects are as good as any camera generally, moving subjects takes more practice - all forms of focussing require good setup......once you have that sorted to your preference it is a brilliant camera, just takes a bit of time to get to grips with the options - it is very customisable.

AFC probably is better with phase detect cameras, but with practice you can still get results with contrast detect, Panasonic having the best of this I think - animal detect could make moving subjects easier if it works well, but as I say with practice you can still get results For moving targets, just maybe slightly different techniques required, such as pulsing focus instead of holding it down - but of course this is all dependent on the moment and subject - you can just hold it down sometimes.

The new firmware should make a great camera even better in my opinion.
