Mark Lew1s
My real name is Mark Lewis
Hi,
I was made aware of a mystery bird recording that was being discussed here: https://community.rspb.org.uk/wildlife/f/ask-an-expert/207112/strange-bird-song/1288708#1288708
At the end of the thread they reveal that the bird was a wren (confirmed visually) - but the recording sounds very odd for this species. However, I think it is the correct answer!
The recording at the link above has been made using a mobile phone, of a song recorded with a webcam and played through a computers speakers. I can understand why this might result in a loss of quality but can anyone explain the apparent shift in frequencies?
I've attached a few sonograms that show why I think the ID is correct and the differences in frequencies (see up and down comparison for ID- the structures of the notes within each ‘phrase’, and the order they appear in the strophe are pretty much identical (see yellow arrows), and side by side comparison for massive differences in frequency between the 'mystery' and one of my own wren recordings
