Descriptions of all fossil Strigiformes (1 Viewer)

In 2007 I was asked to compile a list of fossil Owls for the 2007 Owl Conference in Groningen, the Netherlands. This project was ment to supply everybody who attended the conference with a CD on which original description of all the extant and fossil Owls were to be found. David H. Johnson, the director of the global owl project, asked me for the list and papers of the fossil Owls.

Our results can be found on:

A.E. Sieradzki, David H. Johnson, Pauld Radley, Deanne P. Lewis and Fred Ruhe.

Original literature describing the entire Order of Strigiformes (extant and fossil Genera, species and subspecies) 1758 - 2007

http://www2.nrm.se/ve/birds/sape/GlobalOwlProject/index.html

Well, that was a long time ago. Now more fossil Owls are described.

In this thread I will try to update the list of fossil birds. I will add newly described taxa every now and then, the list is to long to do it in one go. I will give the link to a free paper or ipload a pdf. The starting date will be September 18th 2007.

Hoping you will like it,

Enjoy,

Fred

This is for now the last "new species" in the list, but I will update it as soon as a new species is described.

Fred, what about the Holocene taxon Hispaniolan Barn Owl Tyto ostologa WETMORE 1922* (in Tytonidae) ...

Is it valid, or not? Or have you just missed it?

I simply had to ask as I couldn't find it listed in this thread.

Tyrberg et al., 2022** treat it as valid.
