Surf and Black Scoters (1 Viewer)

Nice pics!

Interesting that the female Black Scoter has a yellow patch on its bill - from what I've read, Common Scoter (M. nigra nigra) and Black Scoter (M. nigra americana) "females appear to be inseparable in the field"

I don't think this is an immature drake, as they lose their pale cheeks before they get any yellow on the bill (in Common Scoter, at any rate!)

Anyone have any more info on this?
