But the officer commanding up in his turret kept a bird list, much to the puzzlement of his men. There was even radio chatter from other birding squaddies as to the best locations. As they went over the Helmand River into bandit country everyone was on the look out for a pelican that had been seen in the area.
 
Best bit of on the hoof birding since Clarkson and chums desecrated the African wilderness with thier clapped out jalopys.The troop commanders biggest regret not seeing the pelican........hmmmm wonder how the families of the men who died in his command like that.
