Black-throated Blackbird (1 Viewer)

Pie Face

This abberrant Blackbird was photographed at Rother Valley Country Park, near Sheffield this morning, by a friend of mine. I was startled at just how much this bird resembles a male Black-throated Thrush. Of course a B-t Thrush would not show a yellow orbital ring or dark undertail coverts. I must admit It would have had me panicking for a bit.

Yeah, a bit 'thingy', isn't it!

Presumably a very late-fledged juvenile that's only just starting its moult to first winter - if you saw it in August, you'd not think twice about it.

I wonder if it might be.. oh no I've no idea how to spell this... a stockhausel...??? variant. You do get some very pale 1st winter BB's that are mistakable for Ring Ouzels.
