Buzzard(?) near Sawtry (1 Viewer)

Active member
whilst visiting a friend in Sawtry on Sunday, we went for a walk.

Around a mile west we saw a Kestrel and a "sodding great bird" (circa 4-5 foot wingspan, at a guess) with squarish wings.

From my books at home I'd guess buzzard.

Anyone else seen this, or know about it?

Hi. Could well have been Common Buzzard. Not many years ago this would have been quite unusual, but the species has expanded greatly from its stronghold in the south and west of the UK. It can now be seen regularly in parts of eastern England (I've often seen them from the A1 near your site) and even breeds in several localities. Beautiful birds!
