S. Florida Warning: Green Cay, Peaceful Waters CLOSED for repairs (1 Viewer)

To anyone traveling down this way, or locals who wanted to get out and do some birding at the various local parks, be warned that two of the more popular sites for birding are closed or will be closing for quite some time as they undergo boardwalk and/or building repairs and renovation.

Green Cay Wetlands in Delray Beach, FL closed in mid-November 2019, and is projected to be closed for 4-6 months. That would put the earliest opening likely around April 2020 - though it could be into May/June.

Also, Peaceful Waters Sanctuary, within Wellington's Village Park complex, is planning to close on January 6, 2020, and is projecting being closed until September 2020.

Extremely poor timing for both parks to be closed during the winter when more birds are down here, as well as through the Spring migration...but hey, that's government for you!

Wakodahatchee Wetlands, a major rookery spot, is still open - and ridiculously crowded since Green Cay is closed...but still worth the visit if you can get in. Arthur Marshall Wildlife Refuge, and Wellington Environmental Preserve are both open and are backup options, and there are myriad smaller parks with birding opportunities such as Okeeheelee Park, Daggerwing Nature Center, Spanish River Park in Boca Raton, Tall Cypress Reserve, and others.
