I am coing up to cumbria next week and wondered if anyone knew of any good murmurations up there apart from Gretna??? Also anything you recommend I see or do whist there, staying for a week and really looking forward to it.

Leighton Moss is a good day out but take your wellies as some hides are out of reach without them at the moment.

We were there Saturday and saw good numbers of starlings building up and brief murmarations. With the cold weather moving in chances are improving though not guaranteed. Still every chance of Marsh Harriers and Otters as well as the Starlings too.

Was at LM on Sunday and there was a great murmaration, they stayed up for a long time and moved up and down the reserve, and there was a fantastic sunset. The numbers are just starting to build at Leighton Moss driven by the cold snap. Saturday was the first gathering of the year.

Murmarations are a bit hit and miss, the birds often just go straight in to the reeds.

Haven't heard anything about the Gretna one this year, depends where you are in Cumbria it is a big place!
