first Condor chick (1 Viewer)

Yay!

Arizona has just had its first California condor hatch in the wild, at the Grand Canyon, since the 1920's.

A year or two ago, an egg which failed to hatch was found.

This time, it's a healthy chick estimated to be 16 weeks old. Let's keep our fingers crossed that it successfully takes to flight and grows to maturity.

That's fantastic news. We saw the condors at Grand Canyon in 2000. We were relaxing on the south rim and two flew in - almost blacked out the sky!

I think Keith got a couple of photos when they settled on one of the ledges below us. I'll try and find them and scan them in.
 
Never been to the States, never seen a Condor, but I understand these guys are in need of all the successes they get.
