Birding in Cyprus this spring? (1 Viewer)

Arrived in cyprus yesterday for a two week holiday. First day out today for a quick walk around gave us

Hooded crow
Magpie
Northern wheater
Swallow
Red rumped swallow
Kestrel
Linnet
Great tit
Cyprus wheater
Black eared wheater

Sardinian warbler
Black cap
Greenfinch
Gold finch
Zitting cisticola
Cettis warbler
Black francolin
Crested lark
Collared dove
Yellow wagtail
Lesser whitethroat
Wood chat shrike.

We have heard one bird that sounds like a man whistling. A short note going up or down and a longer one wit flucuating notes. Any ideas what this could be?

Will keep this up to date each day as we find the birds during our stay. At the moment we have been around the argaka area.

Second trip to Cyprus and still no Cyprus Warbler

Hi Rob

You may struggle for CW in the far North West of the Island so if you have transport then a move further South and East may prove more fruitful. As malcurtin has suggested Anarita Park or Asprokremnos Dam could be a good bet.

You want to visit the coppice at the the end of Asprokremnos Dam for cyprus Warbler, and also either end of the dam wall itself.

Should also be Bee-eaters around and keep eyes peeled for Pallid Harriers passing through.

Quiet around the villa this morning , although we have just had great views of 2 great spotted cuckoo's.

Much better than the one in the dark the other night.

A quiet day birding wise today. We do have one investigation to carry out tomorrow morning. We think we have an idea but want to put bins on it first. We will keep you posted.....

A lovely view of the great spotted cuckoo again this afternoon from our villa(argaka area) about 3.20pm. He is becoming quite a regular visitor8-P

The latest sightings are posted on the BirdlifeCyprus website but these are general and island wide. If you are doing a day trip then start off at the Paphos Lighthouse & Arch site. Then move on to Mandria and finish off at Aspro Dam and Anarita. You should catch up with most of the migrants and have a chance of seeing a CW.

Well our morning walk today around argaka was quite quiet. We were hoping to find what we believe to be an Eastern Orphean Warbler. The one we saw a quick glimpse of but think we recognise it by its song.....is is likely around here?

Whilst out looking for this we did however come across a lovely masked shrike*. So nice to see one of these. Got to love cyprus ;)
