A wood pigeon threesome! (1 Viewer)

Not sure what was going on here, but a couple of wood pigeons were trying to mate, when a third hopped onto a telegraph pole next to them, and then decided to join in...

Once it did not succeed it flew off, leaving the other pair to it once more.

Is this common behaviour in a highly sexed breeding season? Was the third one a juvenile who was merely imitating behaviour? Am I misreading and they are not mating at all?

It's definitely not a juvenile - they lack the white collar marking of adults.

Not sure why it decided to join in though - maybe it wanted the female for itself and tried to get the other male to leave?
