Russia has been monitoring the Arctic for a long time. The scientists there appear to be less convinced of AGW, even though Russia would surely benefit from a warmer climate. Interesting. Are their scientists not part of the 97% (or whatever the exact figure is), then? Or, like ours, are they simply being ignored by an irresponsible ruler?

I don't know. They had been skeptical in the past, but some of the more recent work expresses recognition that real changes are happening.
https://www.sciencedaily.com/release...0919144910.htm
Unfortunately, coverage of Russian scientific work is very spotty and has fallen with the renewed East West chill. If there is a decent source, I'd love to learn about it.

Thanks for the link—made interesting reading as another illustration of how very complex the whole business is.

There goes yet another staple of anti-AGW mythology. Entirely as predicted by the people who actually know what they're talking about.

What happens when there are too many generations who do not realize (mine included) that we haven't been paying the true costs of everything in society for a while, including caring for the environment:

https://www.nbcnews.com/politics/con...limate-n946296

This sort of problem affects more than just climate change, it affects social programs, infrastructure, standard of living, everything.

This is one of those problems for me of "ethically I'm liberal, but fiscally and law-and-order I'm conservative." For example, I'd back Bernie Sanders, except I know darn well there is no way we could ever responsibly pay for everything he'd want to do. (Note: I did not say "Democrat" and "Republican"...both the major parties are such a mixed-up, irresponsible mishmash.)

So really, the Yellow Vests are likely not the first manifestation of this dilemma we'll see. Whether I'll see things like this here stateside remains to be seen (we don't have quite the history of protest France has), but the frustration is there (hence Trump getting into office).

We've all been living in this world of "credit is good; debt is good" mindset for so long. And being forced to barely make it by check-to-check. Something has to give eventually, and it may be the environment gives way first because we don't directly control it like we do various points of the economy.

Maybe the very planet we live on may be what finally knocks the house of cards down?

Where on earth did you get that idea from? Other countries have successfully enacted progressive agendas, why shouldn’t we?

You appear to have fiscal figures on your side for a little reallocation.

No other country has, even in proportion, a defence budget that exceeds all the other countries together by up to a factor of three (depending on the method of calculation)...

A fair bit of slack could be taken up there, perhaps?

Indeed. And, of course, the US being a comparatively lightly taxed country, there’s
even more slack in the tax code.

Speak for yourself!
Many are daily paying the price for less abuse to the environment with practical and prudent decisions!

And by the way, if you are a true conservative and even remotely considered to vote for Bernie Sanders, you need to rethink your position. The guy is a Socialist loony, and no I won't elaborate. Do some homework.

Anyone who thinks that we in the U.S.. aren't one of the most taxed nations in the world is a complete idiot. Let those who want more taxes voluntarily give to that cause. Stand back and behold the hypocrisy!

One more thing, Kevin. Buckle up. The same revolt we witnessed in France will erupt elsewhere as elites think they can 'let them eat cake.' Elites want their private jets, and big mansions, (eg. every Hollywood creep and phoney Al Gore) but damnation awaits the average SUV owner. The political winds that have blown in Austria, Italy, Spain, our own U.S. ...will continue to happen elsewhere. People aren't the stupid yokels that the pompous @sses think we are.

I like that idea !

A little gem of genius :)

Let's see what proportion "extra" those folk give, for how long, and who they are - along with a time scaled survey.

It would be a fascinating experiment !

Interesting article here on pending decreasing sea levels. No, that isn't a misprint. I'm sure the long knives will be out shortly for this IPCC expert. How dare he dissent!....

STOCKHOLM, Sweden — The United Nations Intergovernmental Panel on Climate Change (UN IPCC) is misleading humanity about climate change and sea levels, a leading expert on sea levels who served on the UN IPCC told The New American. In fact, it is more likely that sea levels will decline, not rise, explained Dr. Nils-Axel Mörner, the retired head of the paleogeophysics and geodynamics at Stockholm University. ....

I'm also certain of the pending hit job on any site which posits this contrarian viewpoint. Focus will not be on Dr. N A M's theory, but rather his character and the site which published this. Let the trashing begin.

Perhaps as someone who keeps up with the technical literature, you can elucidate the evidential basis of Morner’s theory for us amateurs? Oh, you can’t? Hmmm. . ..

But enough of this clowning around. The New American is a right-wing rag staffed by conspiracy theorists and affiliated with the John Birch Society among other disreputable organizations. And Mörner is just another octogenarian crackpot unable to keep up with modern modes of scientific thinking. But, deep in your heart, you surely already know this?
