Middle TN Birders?...

Looking for anyone who's in Middle TN or even anywhere in TN.. Sometimes I feel like I am the only "crazy bird lady" (as my oldest daughter likes to call me) around!!! It'd be nice to chat with others in and around "my local patch"!! Happy Birding - despite the heat!!

Tennesse birders

Hi Bird Chick,

I live in Nashvlle, although I am more into digiscoping (taking bird pictures through a spotting scope) than birding. Not many Tennessee birders it seems. I have been doing digiscoping since May of 2006.

Try doing a "Search Forums". Look at the upper right side of the screen. This should turn up one or two who are into birding I think. You can also look at the world map of Birdforum members. Look on the opening screen on the right hand side for the link to the map. I know there are some members in East Tennessee.

Hope this helps.

Regards,

Robert

Thanks Robert I'll try that.... I've been researching digiscoping and comparing different options. For instance, I currently use Bushnell's Birding Series binocs 8x40... great for the beginner but now want to check out better options. I'd love to be able to photograph the birds I'm seeing... What website/company would you suggest to research/compare products? What are you currently using? I want to find something that works well without spending a fortune... Any advice would be appreciated! BTW, where are you digiscoping? Do you travel around or just use "your local patch"? Thanks for the help!

Hi Bird Chick,

To research digiscoping go to the Birdforum's Andy Bright's Digiscoping Forum. It is under Photography, Digiscoping , Art & Equipment. As for a vendor to research/compare products, try Eagle Optics http://eagleoptics.com/ or Optics Planet http://www.opticsplanet.net/spottingscopes.html . I have ordered from both vender's and they give good service and are liberal on their return policies. Adorama Camera http://www.adorama.com/ and B&H Photo Video http://bhphotovideo.com/ are good, but tough on their return policy. Most things, if opened, cannot be returned.

As for what I am currently using, I have a 80mm Swarovski HD angled scope and have both the 60x zoom and 30x power eyepieces. I use a Zeiss Quick Camera Adapter (modified to fit the Swarovski scope) and currently a F30 Fuji camera. You can see a picture of my equipment by searching my posting. It will be the posting about digiscoping equipment. Try thread http://www.birdforum.net/showthread.php?t=87146&page=2 . This is not thumbnail, but an Adobe file, so it will have to be opened to see the image.

At present, It is too hot here for me to do any digiscoping. I am retired and to old and long in tooth to get out in 100 degree weather to digiscope or to do most anything else. Most of my digiscoping has been confined to the local parks, my back yard or at my stepdaughter's, who lives in the country north of here. I guess you could say I have stuck mostly to my own patch.

All the best,

Robert
