Grimley and Holt (2 Viewers)

Tuesday evening ringed plover and f.garganey east shore, greenshank, dunlin 5 snipe west shore .A group of 7 wigeon south west shore. 11 little egrets along with the cattle egret roosted.
Common sandpiper was on church farm pits.
 
Thursday evening CLP’s dunlin and ringed plover still and wigeon shovellor and a Male pochard toward the south end. Garganey and greenshank absent. The cattle egret roosted at around 7:30pm flying in from the north.
A tawny owl was seen on a road telegraph pole on leaving.
 
Sunday morning quiet with dunlin and ringed plover remaining. 44 species seen , could do with some steady rain to soften the ground and invigorate what left of autumn plant growth.
 
Tuesday evening windy from west dark clouds threatening, however, f. garganey east shore with ringed plover, little stint west shore with dunlin. Cattle egret came into roost at 7:10, carrying out what I've noted before ,first settling near sunken fence line to drink before flying into nearby trees to roost.
Of interest there is a very light sandy coloured canada goose which i have not seen before .

Sunday late morning CLP,s little stint, dunlin and ringed plover still ,Wagon Wheel , common sandpiper, shelduck M and F mandarin. Cow wintering ground church farm 50+ meadow pipits, goldfinches and linnets.
 
Tuesday evening warm and sunny, CLP,s ringed plover west shore , F. Garganey east shore ,a first winter common gull with c60 black headed. 80 lapwings came into roost as did the cattle egret at 7:00pm.
Duck numbers increasing with shovellor ,teal and 12 wigeon all present.
 
Sunday morning ,Wagon Wheel quiet so onto CLP,s small birds on the move with swallows, meadow pipits and pied wagtails from causeway. 3 stonechats where also here 2 males and juvenile/female as well as East shore . A yellow wagtail dropped in briefly ,hippo pool ,photo by Carl on twitter? The ringed plover remains although i wasn't convinced it was the long staying one . A M. and F. Pochard south end and on returning back to the N. causeway a peregrine put the lapwings and black headed gulls into the air , and then drifted off east. 2 kingfishers were also seen here, one sitting on the footpath gate.
Sling /Holt 2 Eygptian geese.
 
Tuesday evening the cattle egret came into roost at 6:05 and a shelduck was still present , forgot to mention this on Sunday. A kingfisher was on church farm fishing pools and 2 Egyptian geese were in the nearby field.
 
Thursday evening clear and sunny CLP's on arrival 2 black-tailed Godwits west shore feeding ,flew off south 6:25pm . Cattle egret roosted at 6:35pm . Shelduck still and 2 kingfishers north causeway.
About 70 black headed gulls were present with 2 first winter common gulls. 7 Pochard ,5 male, south end . C30 pied wagtails in alder trees mid pit, and C100 starlings roosted in phragmites.

Earlier this morning we went to Wagon Wheel Pits where there was no sign of the Cattle Egret. The following species were logged:

Mute Swan, Shoveler, Teal, Tufted Duck, Coot, Moorhen, Great Crested Grebe, Little Grebe, Cormorant, Grey Heron, Little Egret, Buzzard, Sparrowhawk, Black-Headed Gull, Lesser Black-Backed Gull, Common Snipe, Woodpigeon, Collared Dove, Magpie, Jackdaw, Carrion Crow, Jay, Green Woodpecker, Great Spotted Woodpecker, Skylark, Meadow Pipit, Robin, Dunnock, Starling, House Sparrow, Blackbird and Goldfinch.

A quick visit to Camp Lane Pits produced Kestrel, Lapwing, Canada Goose and Mallard, thus 36 species overall today.

Recap Sunday Wagon wheel flock of 20 goldfinch feeding in alders ,stoat hunting along hedgerow . CLP'S a dunlin , shelduck still ,c400 canada geese and amongst these a juvenile common tern pic below. 3 stonechats were at the south end on bulrushes. Kingfisher seen from N.causeway.
Tuesday evening dunlin , shelduck still , the odd swallow still about ,180 starling roosted hippo pool . Cattle egret returned for a drink at 6:35 and roosted 6:50pm with 5 little egrets. A vocal water rail could be heard along the east shore[mid way].

Sunday morning,knowing that a great white egret had been roosting at Camp Lane Pits arrived at North gate 7:30am to see said bird flying toward me and landing in North corner of Hippo pool. At 7:33am took off and headed N.west over the wood ,lucky. By this time it was raining heavily but shelduck still 2 kingfisher south end and a water rail flew across the North East pool.
 
Cattle Egret seen in cattle field at Wagon Wheel Pits at 1pm this afternoon then flew into a distant tree behind the lefthand pool. Only brief views as the rain was still coming down.

Tuesday evening cattle egret returned to camp lane pits at 6:08pm and roosted after drinking at 6:25pm with 11 little egrets. C80 cormorants roosted and wigeon numbers are starting to rise with25 seen. At least 2 water rail were heard calling and a noctule bat hunted along the west shore.
 
Thursday evening the cattle egret was present on arrival at 5:20pm as was the shelduck. A garganey was on the east shore along with 3 snipe and a water rail was seen by ruscus reeds N. Causeway. C500 starling were in the air , and I think most roosted toward the south end.
 
Sunday morning a misty start ,cattle egret wagon wheel 8:30am took off north but lost immediately in mist . A few wigeon were also there. Church farm fishing pools 3 redwing and 2 fieldfare in hawthorn with bullfinch and c15 goldfinch. CLP's water rails calling at least 3 ,but otherwise no change . Pic of garganey from Thursday.

Wednesday evening ,this is probably the last weekday entry until the clocks go forward again next spring . It was a spectacle watching the c439 canada geese take off to roost on Wagon wheel /river and the 70+ grey lags. C70 lapwing circled before landing on west shore and c300 starlings roosted . Hunting male sparrowhawk on and around north causeway . Cattle egret unusually east shore and a heron fished along side a kingfisher[if you look closely] on the hippo pool , and looking west as the day draws to a close.

Sunday morning,sunny cloudless, 5C, Holt 60 cormorants flying toward CLP's at 7:30am and a steady stream of woodpigeons flying west c250 . The water and margins very quiet with only a few coot. The yew trees in the churchyard had mistle ,song thrush, redwing and greenfinch with a small flock of fieldfare over.
On to wagon wheel a redpoll was seen with 15 goldfinches in alders on the way , North pit 70 wigeon . South pit 14 little egrets, 5 grey heron and 3 goosander , 2m 1f, . On leaving W.W. 4 maybe 5 red-legged partridges were in the next field , but by the time I,d vaulted the gate they were already cresting the hill and lost to view. These are the first i've seen at grimley this year, and in exactly in the same location as last years sighting.

Sunday morning a gloomy day light wise but yew trees and hawthorn both had a varieties of thrush feeding in them with redwing being the most abundant. CLP’s ,green sandpiper over East to West . Kingfisher and at least 2 water rail south end .C10 great crested grebes also with 1 catching a small perch ( photo Carl Jones #grimleybirding ), who accompanied me on the walk. Wagon wheel 2 little egrets ,and c20 wigeon the best. 45 species seen.
