just want it to share my sightings of my trip to Shetland:
As I already told in a previous topic; I had plans to go to Shetlands.
I went last week for 5 days to Shetland.
Lovely island btw. Only I went not specialy for birding because I had my girlfriend with me, which is not a birder so I could't go active birding. We did do a cultural trip but ones in a while I had chance to watch birds on the island.

13 till 19 august (13 till 18 on the island)
1. Red trouthed Diver (common, mostly in pairs)
2. Fulmar (common)
3. Storm petrol (15 around the ferry to Lerwick but not seen during our trip to Moussa)
4. Gannet (common)
5. Cormorant (a few on the island, aprox 8 seen)
6. Shag (common)
7. GRey Heron (3 near Weisdale and 2 at eastcoast)
8. Mute Swan (quite common)
9. Whooper swan (1 at Spiggyloch and at total of 8 at Westside Shetland)
10. Grey leg goose (common)
11. Shelduck (along coast 2 seen)
12. Mallard (common)
13. Wigeon (1 eclips present)
14. Teal (5 at north mainland and 1 at pond near Sumburgh airport)
15. Tufted duck (common)
16. Eider (common)
17. common Scoter (only seen on the ferrytrip from Aberdeen)
18. Velvet scoter (1 female flew north from st Ninian isle)
19. Red breasted merganser (several groups)
20. Merlin (2 where seen on south mainland)
21. Peregrine (1 seen hunting from central mainland
22. Oystercather (common)
23. Ringed plover (common)
24. Golden plover (one group of aprox 50 birds near Brae)
25. Lapwing (common)
26. Sanderling (common)
27. Turnstone (common)
28. Dunlin (quite common)
29. Little stint (2 near Sumburgh)
30. Greenshank (1 at Spiggyloch)
31. Green Sandpiper (1 near Weisdale)
32. Spotted Redshank (1 at beach near Borra)
33. Redshank (common)
34. Curlew (common)
35. Wimbrel (3 north of SCalloway)
36. Snipe (common)
37. Ruff (1 near Sumburgh)
38. Great Skua (very common but lovely to see!)
39. Arctic Skua (quite common, aprox, 20 seen on the island)

43. Lesser black Backed gull (only a few around the island)
44. Great black backed gull (common)

46. Common tern (only seen west from Lerwick at Clickimin Loch)

49. Puffin (3 where seen during ferry trip but almost al the puffins where gone)
50. Black guillimot (common)

52. Razorbill (a few)
53. Rock dove (common, mostly pure rockdoves)
54. Collered dove (2 seen, 1 at south mainland near spiggy loch and 1 near Weisdale)
55. Skylark (only 3 seen)
56. Swallow (a group of 25 near Sumburgh and a few near Sumburgh head)
57. Meadow pippit (common)
58. Rock pippit ( a few heard near rocky coast)
59. Pied wagtail (common)
60. White wagtail (at least 1 seen from Sandness)
61. (shetland) Wren (common)
62. Wheatear (common)
63. Winchat (1 seen at Moussa)
64. Blackbird (common)
65. Fieldfare (very strange and quite early; seen on Moussa, flew away in front of me and the grey back clearly seen. later on seen on the meadow)
66. Garden warbler (a total of 4 where seen on the island, 1 mousa, 1 sumburgh head, 1 sumburgh hotel and 1 Bigton) at sumburgh head the same day a Barred warbler was seen, the same?
67. Lesser Whitetroat (my first for scotland! very nice, only seen 2 minutes on Moussa before ferry was leaving again)
68. Icterine warbler (1 at Bigton, my only Twitch during this trip)
69. Willow warbler (5 seen on moussa, 2 at Sumburgh head, 2 at spiggy loch, 4 at Bigton, 13 in total)
70. Pied Flycather (1 seen at Borra and 5 seen at Bigton)
71. Rook (3 seen at Weisdale)
72. Raven (common)
73. Hooded Crow (common)
74. Starling (common)
75. House sparrow (common)
76. Chaffinch (a few seen near Weisdale, Bigton and Lerwick)
77. Linnet (a pair beteen twites)
78. Twite (quite common specialy on Moussa)
79. Reedbunting (1 seen at Bigton)
80. Goosander (a group seen on the ferry north of Aberdeen)
Species possible seen/heard but can't remmember for sure:
81. Robin
82. Pheasant
83. Goldfinch
Mammels:
1. Rabbit (very common)
2. Common seal (common)
3. Grey seal (common on moussa and a few on the rest of the island)
4. Ferret (1 adult and 1 young dead along the road at central mainland)
5. Dolphin spec. (3 seen from ferry near harbour Aberdeen)
Pictures of birds on the island shall follow soon.
