Best book for birds of peninsular malaysia? (1 Viewer)

Hi all,
have a trip lined up in July in Terengganu, wondering which book will be best for ID purposes, and anyone have any experience with this new one? http://www.amazon.co.uk/Field-Guide...9434/ref=sr_1_1?ie=UTF8&qid=1336649582&sr=8-1

Hi James,

The new guide by Allen Jeyarajasingam is well worth buying if planning a trip to Malaysia. The plates is very poor but the family and species descriptions is very detailed throughout the book. Another book worth considering is Birds of Thailand by Craig Robson http://www.amazon.co.uk/A-Field-Gui...0583/ref=sr_1_5?ie=UTF8&qid=1336770210&sr=8-5 especially for birding in the northern states of Malaysia.

Probably better to consider Robson's Birds of SE Asia, this covers Peninsular Malaysia, and is also more up to date. http://www.amazon.com/Field-Guide-B...=sr_1_1?s=books&ie=UTF8&qid=1337020948&sr=1-1

I don't think the SE Asia Guide is useful for birdwatching in Malaysia, the taxonomic classification is more up-to-date but as it covers the whole of Indochina it means you will have to flip through loads of species irrelevant for birdwatching in P. Malaysia.

True, that book is heavy.

But some species that occur in Peninsular Malaysia would be missing in the Thailand Edition, I guess. No idea how many though...
