Saw this swimming bird this afternoon, but no idea what kind it is. Anyone recognize it?

Merganser indeed, but it's a juv Hooded not a Red-breasted nor Common/goosander: the bill is short, thick and yellowish, the plumage is brownish, and note the pattern of the tertial that is coming through.
