Hi. Just ran across this site while researching lenses for photographing birds. I have a Nikon D80, but as yet, no lens worthy of bird photography. I'm thinking of the Nikkor 300 AFS with a teleconverter (I don't care to spend $5000 for a real lens, yet), but I'll be searching the fora here for further advice. Thanks.

Hi ronnie and a warm welcome to you from those of us on staff here at BirdForum.

We're glad you found us and thanks for taking a moment to say hello ;)

Can't help you if you are thinking prime lens but if zoom, the Sigma 70-300mm is a great lens and reasonably priced.
