:t:Thank you for that David. Yes it looks good for Boarded Straw. Apparently they are lighter as this one is the further south they are found. Thanks again. :t:

I've trapped lots of them on Mallorca and also id'd many from Spain and other 'Old World' countries and I can't say that I've noticed any correlation between the ground colour and the latitude at which they are found. Also, as a widespread migrant, pale specimens are just as likely to turn up as adults further north, so I don't think this holds.
It's more likely to be age-related as the colours do fade - but they can be quite variable, although much less so than Scarce Bordered Straw.
