Hi, I have never heard a blackbird make this sound: http://www.xeno-canto.org/361206 - the high-pitched, drawn-out wheeze, not the chiffchaff! It was facing me and, though quiet, carried well and I 'felt' the sound, which in itself sounds strange.
I know what you mean about "feeling the sound" - I think its the resonance that "excites".
The call is really very common in my experience - I think they do it more when nesting, certainly all Blackbirds do this often. Maybe its missed because its so high pitched?
