Eastern Kingbird on Barra: new to Britain
An Eastern Kingbird was found on Barra, Outer Hebrides, on 29th September 2016 and remained until the following day. The same individual was relocated at Bornish, South Uist, on 2nd October. This is the first British and the third European record.
Breeding Egyptian Nightjars in the UAE
The status of the Egyptian Nightjar in the Arabian Peninsula, and in particular in the UAE, has changed in recent years. A newly discovered breeding population in the UAE was studied from 2014 to 2017. Details of the habitat used, adult behaviour, aspects of breeding ecology, juvenile behaviour and moult phenology at the study site are described.
Great bird reserves: Ham Wall
This article explores the creation, management and wildlife of the RSPB’s Ham Wall reserve, in Somerset. Part of the Avalon Marshes, Ham Wall has been created over the last 24 years by the RSPB and has demonstrated that targeted habitat creation on a landscape scale can be extremely effective in reversing the fortunes of declining habitats and species
