Nature Coast Birding (1 Viewer)

The nature coast of Florida (see map) has many fantastic opportunities for birders throughout the year. Over 200 species of birds can be seen including much sought after species such as Florida Scrub-Jay, Red-cockaded Woodpeckers (largest population in the peninsula), Bachman's Sparrow, Burrowing Owls, Florida Sandhill Cranes, Black Rail, Bald Eagle, Limpkin, Budgerigar, Nanday Parakeet and much, much more.

This thread will highlight opportunities available as well as providing a place for local and visiting birders a place to report their sightings etc.

This past weekend I lead a Wings Over Florida field trip in Hernando and Citrus County. We had fantastic views of Red-cockaded & Hairy Woodpecker in the Citrus tract of Withlacoochee State Forest, Burrowing Owls (including one carrying a mouse to its burrow) along Powerline Rd in Hernando County, Greater White-fronted Geese (2) on Bystre Lake near Brooksville and a female Wild Turkey visiting the feeders at Chinsegut Conservation Center. All told we saw over 70 species during this inland field trip.
