Preparing for Perth (1 Viewer)

I'm getting ready for my first trip to Australia, almost three weeks in the southwest. I have two field guides to birds covering all of Australia, but the volume of birds that are unfamiliar to me is a little overwhelming, and so many aren't where I'm going. Are there field guides, books or Android apps, that are specific to SW Australia?

I have the old Graham Pizzey book, and a new large-format book, The Australian Bird Guide by Menkorst et al.

A non-comprehensive guide to common birds of the area would be useful, if one exists.
Thanks,

Jeff

Hi Jeff

You may find the excellent Opus article for Perth of some help to you too. It may keep you going until someone else pops in with some advice for you.

I just found the responses to "August in Australia" with pertinent information - no need to repeat that.
thanks

The Morecombe app (available for android and iOS devices) has a feature that allows you to just show the state you are in. For WA you can just have birds showing that occur in the south-west.

Check out Frank O'Connor's website as well http://birdingwa.iinet.net.au/

This is a 'non comprehensive' app for WA fauna : https://itunes.apple.com/au/app/field-guide-to-western-australian-fauna/id853600331?mt=8

There is a recent 'mini Morcombe' for WA https://www.booktopia.com.au/pkt-field-guide-wa-birds/prod9781925243314.html?source=pla&gclid=Cj0KCQjw45_bBRD_ARIsAJ6wUXQdNJSGlczMyP21mMl-EPxQV49wSfeHX8c2VKg323L2-cwP0on3pN0aAsfJEALw_wcB

Frank O'Connor's website is a good link. I spent time that way with my son a couple of years ago and picked up most of the local endemics in the south west. Where specifically are you heading?

Plans for SW Australia

We're going on a botany-focused tour for 10 days from August 20th, to York and north to Moora and Dongara, then back to Perth, followed by a week or so on our own. We thought to spend the time south of Perth with a rented car.
