75 species in total, a lot more than I thought. I'm pritty sure that if I checked out every single patch of water, I could get to at least 90, I also belive that I have missed out a few, due to not remembering them. so my acual bird list is probably in the 80's.

All birds in itallics are lifers. All birds marked with a * are year ticks.
That means I got 11 lifers and 3 year ticks. This means that this year I have so far seen and heard a total of 132 birds.

I shall leave you with 5 photos from the first day for now. I still have a huge ammount to sort though!

I was typing things up on my laptop as soon as I got back to the flat. So everything is acurate, however, I didn't want to go into full detail with numbers of birds, times induviduals where seen, etc.

Glad to hear you've had a nice time.
I like the picture of the heron especially.

Also, good to hear you have seen a golden eagle! I had the oppurtunity to see the Lake District ones, been up there with DofE, but alas no eagles spotted. Glad someone did.

Speak soon.

Hello Ant

You certainly did have an enviable holiday. :frog: I loved the photos of the moth and the grey wagtail. Any ideas which moth it is?
Not sure that the ones with the umbrellas were having such a good holiday as yours - they looked a bit grumpy :storm: - unlike the lovely photo of you and fiona.

Thanks for sharing it with us.

Bridie

I'm sure you'll see a golden eagle sometime soon chris, you should get to Islay yourself.

Hi Ant

Sounds like you have had a good trip with good sightings of some good birds. A few there I would like this year not least being Golden Eagle.
A nice list. How did you manage to forget some? My trick is just to go through the bird guide at end of each day and it refreshes the mind. BTW you do realise that Carrion and Hooded Crow are sub species of the same species and therefore really count only as one tick? Guess you may know that, but some may not. Its interesting to read how they are distributed and hybridise.
Do you think the royal family may be trailing you?

No, they are now counted as separate species:
Carrion Crow Corvus corone
Hooded Crow Corvus cornix
The BOU split them a couple of years ago. So Ant gets 2 ticks for his trip list.

Blimey I didnt know that. Then I get an extra tick on my UK list too. Very good. My mistake. Problem with constant change, I can't keep up with it.

Cheers

Thats lucky then.

Even if they where still officially one species, therefore one tick, I would still tick them both, afterall, it is my personal list.

By not writing up the list as soon as possible.

I did that a few times
