As promised...

1) USHER, WITH AN EAGLE
2) WE KNEW CEDRIC R.'S HOOPOE
3) DOES BROWN GULL HEAVE?
4) THRUSH - A NUT PECKER
5) TERN TALES IN SURREY
6) ROBIN BRED A STINT
7) SPOT A CLOSER WREN
8) HIS CATCH? A TANAGER
9) THESIS DENOUNCES STARLING
10) YO! NO SEDGE WARBLER!

Now these are truly devious (or, as my wife says, you are a real scoundrel!). How do you do it? Is it appropriate to assume that the bird named in the anagram is NOT part of the solution?
So far, I have one: #1 = Heuglin's Wheatear.

Ken's right - these a tricky.

However, 10. Barrow's Goldeneye.

Based on the 2 so far could we be looking at names of the form "Someone's Bird"? If so, this could explain why I am struggling.

All answers posted and assumptions made hereto are entirely correct.

(Hehehehe)

So evidently 4 isn't CUTE PUNK THRASHER . . . Oh, well, another one for the "Birds we wish existed" list!

3. HOLUB'S GOLDEN-WEAVER
5. REISER'S TYRANNULET

We're closing in!
