Hi everyone, I have been a birder since I was a child, and have now moved to Snowdonia. I am very keen to see birds such as dipper, Goshawk, and pied flycatcher, can anyone suggest some good areas around the Betws-Y-coed area, please? Thanks.

Hi Moon Falcon and a warm welcome to you from all the Staff and Moderators.

I'm sure you will enjoy it here and I look forward to hearing your news. Hopefully someone will be along soon to help you with your quest.

Hi Moon Falcon and welcome to BirdForum. I’d imagine Dippers would be on most streams? I think there’s a Best Bird Watching series book dedicated to North Wales. Might be worth seeking out.

Hi
I can highly recommend the book “The Best Birdwatching Sites in North Wales by Alan Davies and Owen Roberts”

It was published in 2007 by Buckingham Press Ltd.

Some of the information may be slightly out of date but it is still an excellent book with plenty of detailed information.. It is available at Amazon, The Birder’s Store and Waterstones.

Alan was a Warden at RSPB Conwy reserve, now he leads Birdwatching trips.

Good luck with your birdwatching.

Hi just wanted to add one more welcome to the forum. Enjoy the site.

Welcome to Birdforum! I'm sure you'll find lots to interest you here, and I hope you enjoy your visits.

I would also be keen for some info on good birding sites near Betws.

I often stay in the area near pentrefoelas.

South stack good but not exactly close.

Welcome to N Wales, you've certainly chosen an amazing place to live - i've done a lot of bird surveys for the NT/RSPB around Ysbyty Ifan and there are Dippers on the river through the village, Pied and Spot Flys & Wood Warblers in the nearby woods and i've seen Goshawk not far from the village too.

Worlds End is worth a visit it will get you Black Grouse and Crossbill plus others on your wish list.
The Ugly House cafe is worth a visit in Spring for Pied Flycatcher and hopefully Wood Warbler. Rhos on Sea at high tide is a good spot for Purple Sandpiper and currently at Kinmel Bay there are two SnowbBunting, there is a good Face Book group covering North Wales
All the best
Tim
