Gawd Terry! I hope someone comes up with a definative answer for you.
It looks like the yellow variation of Lesser Broomrape O.minor, which is certainly not common, and I reckon,very scarce in Cambs. Worth reporting to the area Plant recorder, Nick Millar.

I'm no expert but it looks like Knapweed Broomrape (O.elatior) to me?
Also can tell me on what soil type the plant was found?

Thanks Terry, I think I know the site and would say it is a Knapweed Broomrape.
