12 April 2019 - The Deluge Continues

12/04/19
Paul Manning reports from out West
Sigri/Faneromeni/Meladia Valley

Paul reports that the area was subject to yet another heavy rainstorm today.
Apparently the Meladia Ford was running half a meter deep, flooding the
road and surrounding area. He added that a return to the Faneromeni area, during the late afternoon produced a gob smacking mix of different species of migrating birds , in terms of sheer numbers.
He describes how flocks of hirundine and wagtails, dropped in on the flooded areas, joined by a spur winged plover and 19 European bee-eaters.
2 separate flocks of lesser kestrel were seen at different locations and evidently it was harrier city, with a count of 29 Marsh and 2 singles each of Monte's and Pallid, in fact he noted that Marsh harriers were everywhere, unable to gain height due to the prevailing weather.

13 April 2019 -Eagles sp x 2 Vouvari

13/04/19
Vouvari
See camera screen shots.
Local conservationist S Zannetos photographed a large eagle sp
at Vouvari. The two birds in the air together, were unfortunately set
against a leaden sky.
Speculation is that they may be eastern imperial eagle (Aquila heliaca) or
Golden Eagle (Aquila Chrysaetos), others better informed than I are
opting for short toed, which are a breeding species on Lesvos.
For me the neck, tail and wingspan make the latter unlikely.
If better images or a definitive ID arise, I will update.
More updates on:

Lesvos Birders.

Happy easter, by the way!
Yvonne and company

Edit: after two days searching and complaining we found a pair (probably) in Achladeri Forest :D
