Could anyone tell me what's happening in the attached image. It was taken today in the Silverdale district of Lancashire.

Wonderful shot of a butterfly that has just emerged from its pupa case.
It usually takes about an hour or so for the wings to unfold fully.
A more expert butterfly specialists will surely be able to identify this.

It is a rare shot, as the opportunity to see one of these little marvels emerging is very brief, so good on you.

I'll venture a guess that this is some species of Hairstreak, but only have North American references, none for Europe, so will hope for some more expert guidance.
